It is very realistic - so much so that when my wife took it out of the box, our real live Westie's tail shot straight up, and he barked that high pitched bark that says, "Who are you and why are you in my house?" The expression on its face is that typical quizical Westie look that always reminds me of Hobbs, the tiger in the old, (my, how time does fly), comic strip "Calvin and Hobbs." Its legs are not wired, so it stretches out in that sprawl, legs fore and aft, that so many Westies seem to adopt at a moments notice. The coat is nicely plushed, although its skirt is not as well done as it could be. The only real mistake is the tail - it appears to have been docked - rather than the typical Westie "carrot." It is not "life size," but at 15 inches it seems to me to be about the right size for a five or six year old child to tote about....
I would not give this toy to a child younger than 5 - but it would seem to me to be appropriate for children of say 6 to 10 - particularly if they are dog lovers, and have a collection of stuffed animals. I'm not sure that it would stand up well to "hard play" - but it could certainly stand up to being loved. In this day of political correctness, I'm hesitant to say this, but what the heck - I can easily see it being the joy of a little girl's heart.
