We bought our son one of these and one of the ponies when he was just five months old.They immediately became his favorites, and were essential for going to bed and, then, to sleep.In fact, they were so desired, especially the ears for chewing, that they had to be washed every couple of days.They hold up well like that for a couple of months, and then they start to look a little matted.So, we bought some more.No that that bothered our son who still prefers the older ones to the new, softer ones!It's just a matter of what's presentable.These have definitely become his security blankets and pacifiers that he reaches for when he needs to relax.Our son's now 19 months and still loves his Dots...The rattle inside is very soft and sounds more like a plastic cow bell, more than anything else.They are a good size - our son has hugged them, biting an ear or horn, while stroking the back or playing with the tail since Day One.
