I have a kid who asked for all things princessy and ballerina-ish for xmas.Even a barbie.

I got her a ballerina barbie.

Great choice, it's got bendable legs, is en pointe, and she can pose her.No stand though.

I hate barbies in general, but this one is more like an action figurine.

Corolle Special Feature Baby Doll Lila - 17" Doll Review

As a disclaimer, I have little experience with baby dolls so I can't really compare Lila to dolls from other brands. That said, Lila is fantastic! She is a 17" doll and so approximates the size of a small newborn. She is pretty light for a little Mommy to carry though (a pound or two?). She is interactive in four ways--laughing when tickled on her tummy, babbling baby talk when her hand is squeezed, crying when placed on her tummy (but stops on her own after about 10 seconds), and making sucking noises when her bottle is placed in her mouth. The sounds are so sweet, not loud or annoying. My daughter takes this doll to bed with her and when I check on her after she's asleep, I just flip the switch on her back to turn her off so that Lila doesn't wake her up in the middle of the night or during naps. The doll is obviously adorable, as the pictures show. Lila was a 2nd birthday gift for my daughter and she took to her immediately. She has played with it every day since receiving it more than a month ago. The doll sits well in a high chair (Kidkraft, see my review if interested) for feeding. The only downside that I've found is that she can't go in the bath.

At our house, we have three Corolle babies. The brand (French in origin) came highly recommended by a friend. I purchased the Calin doll for my daughter's first Christmas (she was 15 months), and I later got baby Paul (anatomically correct boy doll) to help my older son with potty training. I do think Calin could be a good first doll but my daughter has just never taken to her. She is a much smaller doll at 12 inches and has no interactive features. I'm sure it's one of those things where all kids are different but for my daughter, the interactive features and realistic size make Lila a favorite.

Oh, and this doll won an Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award in 2005. A lot of the Corolle dolls got high marks there and I definitely agree. Corolle dolls smell heavenly (vanilla? sugar cookie?) and you can find oodles of coordinating accessories and clothes for them. If my daughter were older, I might just buy the baby preemie clothes for her since they're frustratingly cheaper but she really needs the ease of velcro to change Lila for now. (For anyone interested, she also fits perfectly in the Badger Basket Toys Doll Crib with Cabinet that Amazon also sells.)

Contrary to the review by another, this doll does not really wet.It only "SOUNDS" like it is wetting after she drinks from her pretend bottle. She also cries, laughs, and speaks a number of phrasesin four languages based upon what bracelet (or none) that she is wearing.Her voice functions also shut off automatically "night night" when she is left sleeping or un-played with for several minutes, but then picks right back up when she is attended to.Lea is a lovely 17 inch doll with the typical Corolle quality.My daughter is 4 1/2 and just adores her. She "graduated" from the Bebe Do (received at 2 years) and two different Poupettes...You cannot beat the quality or life like qualities of the Corolle dolls

Fisher-Price® Dora the Explorer: Fairy Wishes Dora Review

We received the Dora Fairy Wishes doll from my daughter's grandmother.My daugther is only two years old and the doll is recommended for three and over.She enjoyed combing her hair and listening to her speak and blink her eyes.That is the most I can say for the doll.Unfortunatly for any age user, the doll does not really stand or sit.In the standing position she is so unstable because of her large head that she tips over at the slightest touch.Her legs twist, but not so that she is in a sitting position, more of a split, and falls right over.This leaves only the laying down position for her to be played with.The tiara does not stay on her head at all and falls right off.Her hair seemed to get knotted up quickly so that when you comb it, her hair comes out.We decided to keep the doll only because my daughter enjoys putting her 'to bed' and pretend combing her hair and hugging her (plus it was a gift from grandma), but as far as any other interactive enjoyment, it is lacking.Overall a very poor design.

UglyDoll Classic UglyWorm Review

This was number one on my daughters Christmas list.My wife and I went back and forth on it and ended up getting it.We thought it will just be another "stuffed animal" that gets thrown in the closet.Plus it is pretty ugly.She LOVES and sleeps with it every night.It made her day opening that present.Throw your practical side out the door on this one and grab one.It grows on you, a little like a fungus, but it is "cute".

Plush Madeline Rag Doll 13.5" Review

I bought this lovely little doll for my niece for Christmas who loves the Madeline books.She just loves her!
She looks as good in real life as she does in the picture!She has the sweetest little face, and is made very well too.She's also the perfect size for a young child or even a girl who is 10 or eleven.Even my eighteen year old daughter now wants one to keep as a token from her childhood, as she loved the character Madeline in the Madeline series as well.She's adorable in her little blue coat, black shoes, hair made from red yarn, and her wonderful smile!I can't imagine any girl not loving this doll.She's perfect for a 3 or 4 year old, too, because she is a cloth doll and is lightweight. They will love to carry her around as they play or read these delightful books by Ludwig Bemelmans.I think it could even encourage them to read not only these books, but serve to introduce them to the joy of reading.Because Madeline lives in Paris in a home for girls run by Miss Clavell, I also bought my niece, Lydia The Ladybug In Paris. The wonderful stories, characters, and fun illustrations of Lydia the ladybug books reminds me of the Madeline series- only Lydia is a little ladybug. You might also want to buy Lydia: The Story of How the Ladybug Earned her Wings as it is an enchanting story with a great message too, and it is the first book in this series by Marie Lawrence.
All three of these items will make wonderful gifts for children as they will bring them much joy and the stories, especially, the Lydia ladybug books, can build their self-esteem as well.
