We received this toy as a hand-me-down from another mother of twins when our boys were infants, but around six months of age is when they really discovered it. It wasn't available on Amazon or anywhere else at that time, and unfortunately we only had one, so they had to share it. I ended up just buying the larger version so they would each have one (which is actually the one pictured in the "customer images" section), but it wasn't as popular and was rarely played with. I think the attraction is that it fits perfectly in a child's grasp. Both boys just loved holding it, and periodically giving it a shake to hear the rattle. It is such a simple thing-- literally just a soft rattle about six or eight inches long-- but it was their absolute favorite toy from ages 6-12 months. They fought over it constantly.
It's made of a soft plush, very durable, and held up beautifully to multiple machine washings (my sons chewed on it constantly and it held up to that, too).
If you only buy one rattle, this is the one you want. It provided hours of contentment on car trips, and was indispensible at bedtime. I just wish I'd had two. Again, just keep in mind that it is very small. If you want the larger one shown in the customer images section; that one is about 20 inches long (I'm going on memory for both, since we no longer have either of them) and costs around $10. I'm stocking up on them now, so I have them on hand for future baby gifts.
